GCC COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Building strong links for the children in need…
The Garden City College had invited students from the Bosco Yuva Kendra. These are special children who hail from different places. The organisation has collected them from various locations like railway stations, traffic signals, bus stands, etc. Some of them have been rescued from restaurant owners as well. The organisation serves as a home for these homeless children. The children arrived in our campus in the morning on Saturday the 22nd of October 2011. A DAY OUT AT NANDI HILLS

The students of the GCC English academy were taken to one of the most famous places around Bangalore, the beautiful hill station Nandi Hills. The hills are located about 35 km east of Bangalore and about 9500 ft above sea level. A flight of 1,175 steps leads from the base of the hills to the top. The highest peak is 2004 mts which holds the shimmering Amrita Sarovar Lake and offers walks of sylvan beauty. It was also the place where Tipu Sultan retired when they sought to escape the din of battle and the heat of the plains and the remains of Tipu’s fort bear this out. Tipu’s Drop, a 600 metre high cliff face, where prisoners were hurled down the precipice, is an awe inspiring sight. (more…)

TRYST WITH GARDEN CITY

It was just a couple of days ago that I was sipping coffee at one of those branded outlets wherein you pay double the reasonable price for an espresso after  jumping down the tuk-tuk, bargaining over 5 bucks with the auto wallah. I personally feel bargaining is at its best when with auto wallas. It has a sort of charm that comes along when you try hard to knock down the rates further with “kya bhaiya hum tho students hai, aur kam kijiye” and yeah u can never avoid them as they come as a package with Bangalore – the Garden city, piping hot filter coffee, the never happening  “Namma Metro” and of course the Monsoons. MISTER FRESHER!!

Many of us as fresher’s took part in the fresherism hoping to win the crown of “Mister and Miss Fresher”. This year, 2011, like the other previous year’s is no different. There will be winners, runners-up, finalists and many other people who actively take part in this mega event, some even behind the screens, making sure the show goes on flawlessly. To me (and hopefully many others), this event is an opportunity to show our talents to everyone and I can safely say that I do it only for fun, and not just for the title, with which many are obsessed! Although it may mean a lot to many people because of the attention and fame (not forgetting the foreign trip) you would get along with it, they should also realize that it is not the ultimate prize in a Gardenian’s college life.
